Welcome to Golden Steamer, a delightful culinary haven nestled in the heart of Chinatown, New York. Located at 143-A Mott St, this charming bakery specializes in the art of steamed buns, offering a perfect fusion of tradition and taste. With a selection of hot single steamed buns like the Roast Pork Bun, Salted Egg Yolk Bun, and Pork and Vegetable Bun, Golden Steamer is dedicated to serving authentic Chinese flavors at unbeatable prices.
The ambiance here doesn't overwhelm; rather, it invites you to explore their display of fresh and packaged buns, ready to be steamed at home for a delightful experience. Customers rave about the fluffy texture of these buns, particularly the beloved Salted Egg Yolk Bun, which has become a fan favorite despite some wishing for a better filling ratio. It's worth the early visit, as these savory delights tend to sell out quickly!
Golden Steamer also caters to your thirst with refreshing cold drinks, including Iced Coffee and H.K. Style Tea, perfect companions to the flavorful buns. The staff's friendliness and the spotlessly clean environment add to the charm of this take-out joint, allowing customers to savor the essence of Chinatown without the frills.
As I wander through Golden Steamer's selection, I can't help but reminisce about the comforting warmth of Chicken Buns packed with Chinese sausage and egg, or the classic flavors that evoke nostalgia. True to its name, Golden Steamer delivers not just food, but a joyful experience filled with authenticity and heart. Whether you're a local or just passing through, this hidden gem promises to leave your palate delighted and your cravings satisfied.
Overall, Golden Steamer stands out as a must-visit destination for anyone seeking delicious, affordable, and freshly steamed buns in New York City. Don't miss out on the chance to indulge in these culinary treasures, and be prepared to return for more!
Delicious buns for a reasonable price. They do sell out quickly, so it's best to come on the earlier side, but not too early because sometimes the buns aren't ready. They also sell packaged ones to steam for later. I prefer the salted egg yolk bun but I do wish the ratio of filling to bun was better. They're very fluffy
While wandering the area in search of pork buns, we stumbled upon this gem. I'm thrilled we discovered it because they serve freshly steamed pork buns that arrive promptly and taste delicious. Though primarily a take-out spot, the place was impeccably clean, and the staff were exceptionally friendly. I'm already eager to come back for more in the future!
I would say their steamed buns are much better than their baked buns. The baked bbq pork wasn't sweet at all so my inner nostalgia was not scratched there. But their Chicken bun with chinese sausage and egg is so good.
Great spot to grab all your buns! Once you come in, you will find a wall of packed buns with different fillings. I got the Chicken Bun and Salted Egg Custard Bun for $6.75. The packs all come with 6 buns, so it's a really good deal at only about $1 per bun when you buy the pack. When you go home, simply steam them for 8 minutes and they're perfectly done. These buns are soft and fluffy, but not much fillings inside. It's still a good deal for a quick meal and these buns are huge; although mostly just bun.
Was meeting up with some relatives in Chinatown and was looking for a place to get some steamed buns or any buns. Read Yelp reviews and saw Golden Steamer. I almost walked pass by the place. As you walk in to the left are buns packed in boxes and well as to the right. You see menu as you approach the counter. It's been a while since I ate a Big Bun and for $2.75 that is definitely a deal with a large cup of coffee $2.00. So my review of the Big Bun- It's a big bun alright with lots of dough and filling smaller on the inside, but it's still packed with yummy goodies a piece of Chinese Sausage, pork meat, egg, etc... It was piping hot when I walked back to my destination. The coffee was not as hot. There were no chairs or tables for patrons to sit. It's a place to go to grab and go. They close at five so I was not able to go back after attending event to buy more items. Will I be back. Of course. I got go back for the sweet stuff.
Love this place. They offer packs of buns that you can store in your fridge/freezer and steam yourself. They also have fresh buns available. Pricing is cheap and there's never a long wait. The Big Bun is so yummy and flavorful, with a variety of filling. Pork and Veggie bun is that classic Chinese bun flavor. I love their dough - it's sweet and fluffy. Staff is swift.
An amazing little place on Mott Street in the heart of Chinatown. I got a hot tip that they carry zongzi and indeed they did, frozen and packaged by half dozen for a paltry $11 (cash only, REMEMBER!). The Tainan-style sticky rice dumplings are delicious and this will be my go-to place until prime zongzi season in June or when I can locate the famed but mysterior zongzi lady. I'll have to return for pork buns and other pastries. I understand the pumpkin bun is great here and I love pumpkin.
Good people and delicious food. Buns are around $1.25-$2 a piece. I tried the chicken and the cha siu. The cha siu was delicious but honestly I preferred the chicken! Buns were heavenly and the fillings were flavourful and generous for the price. Cash only as is to be expected at the Chinatown holes-in-a-wall. They also have a no photos policy that seems strange but I can't complain. You can get the buns by individual pieces fresh or they have packs of six or eight (I couldn't tell) for around $6 on sale. Really yummy, definitely worth a stop.
